New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans are a professional basketball team based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Established in 2002 as the New Orleans Hornets after the Charlotte Hornets relocated, the team was rebranded as the Pelicans in 2013. This change was part of an effort to reflect the local culture and wildlife, with the pelican being the state bird of Louisiana.

The Pelicans have not yet won an NBA championship. They have had several playoff appearances, with their most notable run being in 2018 when they reached the Western Conference Semifinals.

The team plays its home games at the Smoothie King Center, located in downtown New Orleans. The Pelicans are an important part of the city’s sports scene and have a growing fan base.
