The Toronto Tempo are coming for the 2026 WNBA season. Toronto’s WNBA franchise. Look for tickets late 2025.

The Toronto Tempo is set to make history as the first Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) team based outside the United States. Scheduled to begin play in the 2026 season, the Tempo represents a significant milestone for Canadian sports and women’s basketball.

Toronto, Canada’s largest city, is renowned for its cultural diversity, passionate sports fans, and vibrant arts scene. The city is already home to several major sports franchises, including the NBA’s Toronto Raptors, NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs, and MLS’s Toronto FC. The addition of the Toronto Tempo to this lineup underscores Toronto’s status as a premier destination for professional sports and its commitment to supporting women’s athletics.

The name “Toronto Tempo” was unveiled in December 2024, chosen to reflect the rhythm and energy of both the city and the game of basketball. The team’s logo features a light blue italicized “T” within a black circle, with six lines extending from the letter’s left side, symbolizing the five players on the court and the fans.

The Tempo will play their home games at the Coca-Cola Coliseum, an 8,500-seat arena located at Exhibition Place in Toronto. This venue, with a rich history dating back to 1921, has hosted various sporting events and is also home to the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. The Coliseum’s intimate setting is expected to provide an electrifying atmosphere for fans.

The Toronto Tempo is owned by Kilmer Sports Ventures, led by Canadian businessman Larry Tanenbaum. Tanenbaum is also the chairman and a minority owner of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns several of Toronto’s major sports teams. In March 2025, tennis legend Serena Williams joined the ownership group, bringing her experience and advocacy for women’s sports to the franchise.

Monica Wright Rogers was appointed as the team’s first general manager in February 2025. A former WNBA player and two-time champion with the Minnesota Lynx, Wright Rogers brings a wealth of experience to the role. She is responsible for leading basketball operations, including hiring a head coach and building the team’s inaugural roster.

As the Toronto Tempo prepares for its debut in the 2026 WNBA season, the team is actively engaging with fans and the broader community. With strong leadership, a vibrant city as its backdrop, and a commitment to excellence, the Tempo aims to make a lasting impact on the WNBA and inspire a new generation of basketball fans across Canada.

The team will also have games in Vancouver and Montreal. This will be Canada’s Woman’s Basketball team.
